What is “Abigai a Bligal”?

“Abigai a Bligal” is an expression in the Apricalese dialect for an informal and undefined association of friends, who want to do something in or for the village, but without having being bound to the structures of being in a formal group.

For many, it’s a very diffuse idea, and perhaps not easy to understand: it literally means, “ammucchiati ad Apricale” (“crammed in Apricale”) and it exists almost virtually, relying on an instinctive mutual understanding to know who intends to do what, and when. Activities might be to go on walks, to organize a film show in the library, to learn (or teach) the guitar, to learn Italian, to clean part of the river, and soo on.

There are no rules, except a willingness to live in, and to be involved in Apricale, and the agenda is normally set in the piazza, perhaps over a cup of good coffee.
