If driving from Milano, Torino or Bergamo during the winter you
may well run into snow as you cross the mountains. The motorways
are cleared quickly, but there may be a legal requirement for

The train journey from Ventimiglia to Cuneo is a beautiful day
out. It takes about 2 1/2 hours each way and can be done in a
day. The French branch of the line (which they call the
Train des
Merveilles)
runs from Nice to Cuneo (hint from Yvonne

In Ventimiglia station, you can buy SNCF tickets to France up to
25% cheaper at the travel agents in the ticket hall (hint from
Paola Bragatto). |

For a day out, the journey from Nice to
Digne is spectacular! This train departs from a tiny
train station, Nice CP, reachable by foot from the main train
station in Nice (hint from Yvonne and Karl
