The peeling paint, the dim
lighting, the damp smell and the unnerving feeling that somebody has been here
before - Buildings are encompassed with layers of the past and history. I want
to capture these moments of used time, freeze and preserve them. Time is a
concept that cannot be objectified, its only signs are traces that are
protagonists in my work.
Turning something mundane into a
precious detail. Found objects that are often associated with construction are
made softer by burning, cracking and altering. Texture plays a key role
throughout my work allowing the materials to interact and react to each other.
At first glance my work may appear substantial and strong but at closer
observation delicate details become apparent. Coatings of detail, worked over
what was once a pristine surface of a newly built construction.

“It
makes sense from our standpoint to say that we “write a room”, “read
a room”, or “read a house”. Thus, very quickly, at the very first
word, at the poetic overture, the reader who is “reading a room”
leaves readings and starts to think of some place in his own past.”
