Marja started using her knitting needles
creatively on the night shifts during her
nursing training, the first result was a well-made hat
that she still has. She
had learned, like
most of her generation, crochet and knitting at school.
About 35 years ago she came to Camporosso and for
the last she three years she has lived in Apricale.
About 10 years after coming to Liguria,
she had little money and needed a new bag, so
knitted one herself. She got a lot of compliments for it
and decided to make more to sell and give to friends.
She started to sell her knitted and crocheted produce at
the organic produce and hand-crafts market in Dolceacqua, held
regularly now for many years on the last Sunday of the month.
Marja is still there and her colourful hand-crafts can
also be seen and purchased every weekend in Apricale
with homemade 100% woolen caps for winter and
100% cotton produce for summer, including children's
clothing.
She hopes to meet you in her shop
opposite the Bar Tarocchi
